After a whirlwind of preparation and anticipation these past few months we finally found ourselves at the start of our nomadic journey in the charming city of Buffalo, New York. The city's rich history, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality welcomed us with open arms. Our quest for the perfect romantic hideaway led us to the Garden Place Hotel, a haven that promised an idyllic escape with its luxurious amenities and intimate setting.
A Romantic Retreat:
From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we had found our evening oasis. The hotel's ambiance exuded a sense of tranquility and elegance, setting the stage for a perfect stay. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, eager to ensure our stay was nothing short of magical. Although walking through the hotel it felt outdated with angelic sculptures, artificial plants and the overall decor perhaps part of it's overall charm really-we were quite happy with our decision as our suite was perfect. The jet tub in the corner invited us to unwind and create unforgettable memories together, the king size bed offered the comfort needed for a refreshing sleep and we indulged in some Champagne!
Exploring Buffalo's Charms:
Buffalo, a treasure trove of cultural gems, offered unforgettable experiences at every turn. From the grandeur of Buffalo City Hall, the iconic canalside, to Elmwood village we immersed ourselves in the city's beauty and vibrant culture.
Although we did not see everything we wanted, some notable cultural attractions in Buffalo include:
- Albright-Knox Art Gallery: Renowned for its impressive collection of modern and contemporary art, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery houses masterpieces from renowned artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, and Warhol. It's a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
- Buffalo City Hall: This architectural marvel boasts stunning Art Deco design and offers guided tours that take visitors through the history and significance of the building. The observation deck provides panoramic views of the city (observation deck currently closed for construction until September).
- Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens: A true oasis in the city, these beautifully maintained gardens showcase a wide variety of exotic plant species. The glass conservatory is a sight to behold, offering a lush escape in any season.
- Buffalo History Museum: Delve into Buffalo's past at the Buffalo History Museum, featuring exhibits on the city's industrial and cultural history, Native American artifacts, and rotating exhibitions.
- Shea's Performing Arts Center: A magnificent venue, Shea's offers a stunning example of 1920s grandeur. Catch a Broadway show, concert, or other performances in this historic theater.
- Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin D. Martin House: Architecture enthusiasts will be captivated by this prairie-style masterpiece designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The guided tours offer insights into Wright's unique design philosophy.

Personal highlight of Buffalo:
Seeing Arash have the pleasure of reuniting with an old friend from his hometown during our stay. Upon meeting laughter and excitement filled the air as they reminisced about fond memories. Eager to catch up over good food and great beer, our party of four headed to the New York Beer Project Brewery. I had the pleasure of getting to know the vibrant atmosphere, coupled with a wide selection of craft beers and cocktails it became the perfect spot to relax on the patio and play bags (corn hole) with my new aquatinted friends.
We also had the pleasure of checking out Lucky Day Whiskey bar the following evening and it was a 10/10 experience. Stepping into Buffalo's Lucky Day Whiskey Bar was like finding a hidden gem within the city's vibrant heartbeat. With laughter in the air and the warmth of friendship all around, we paused our exploration of the city to indulge in the perfect evening. Sharing stories and creating new memories, we clinked glasses filled with an exquisite selection of whiskeys that spanned the globe. The rustic charm of the bar set the stage for a truly authentic experience, while the menu offered a delectable fusion of flavours that delighted our taste buds. From the moment we entered, time seemed to slow down, allowing us to savour every sip, every bite, and every shared moment with friends. Lucky Day Whiskey Bar isn't just a place; it's a sanctuary of camaraderie, where time stands still and the essence of Buffalo's warmth is captured in every toast and every smile.
